「普賢菩薩（ふげんぼさつ）」は、大乗仏教において「理知（正しい判断力）」と「行願（強い信念を持って行動すること）」を司る、極めて重要な菩薩です。仏の教えを頭で理解するだけでなく、現実の行動として実践する「行動力」の象徴であり、古来より延命長寿、災難排除、そして目標達成や自己実現を力強く後押ししてくれる仏として深く信仰されてきました。辰（たつ）・巳（へび）年生まれの方の守護本尊としても広く親しまれています。
