十二支の第八位に位置する「未（ひつじ・羊）」は、群れをなして平和に暮らす姿から「家族安寧」「和合」「慈愛」、そして「豊かな実り」を象徴する大変穏やかで縁起の良い干支です。羊は古来より「美」「祥」「善」といった漢字の語源・構成要素となっており、道徳的で美しいもの、幸運をもたらす存在として尊重されてきました。また、「未」という漢字は樹木の枝葉が豊かに茂る状態を表しており、未来に向けた大成や繁栄の準備が整う吉兆としても親しまれています。
