十二支の第七位に位置する「午（うま・馬）」は、陽の気が最高潮に達する象徴であり、情熱、健康、力強さ、そして「立ち馬（商売繁盛）」に代表される前進のエネルギーを意味する吉兆です。馬は古来より人間とともに駆け抜けてきた力強いパートナーであり、その力強く駆ける姿から「物事が上手（馬）にいく」「勝負運向上」「出世」の象徴として尊ばれてきました。また、神社に奉納される絵馬の由来でもあるように、神の乗り物（神馬）として願いを天に届ける存在としても親しまれています。
